Tendit is the fastest-growing company in DBJ’s Large category
Fast 50 Large category winner: Tendit makes maintaining facilities simple – Denver Business Journal
Industry: Facility Maintenance Services
Top local executive: Alejandra Harvey Oliver
Job title: CEO Colorado HQ location: Denver
Number of full-time local employees: 400
Elevator pitch:
Tendit provides mission-critical facility maintenance services that keep our communities beautiful, hygienic and well-maintained. Tendit provides a singlepoint-of-contact for all exterior maintenance needs (e.g., landscaping, snow removal, paving, striping, sweeping, window cleaning, pressure washing and much more!). Our mission — and the namesake of our company — is to tend our customers, our community and our people. We believe that by merging high-quality service companies under theTendit umbrella, we can better serve our stakeholders in our mission.
Company evolution:
Tendit started as just a single pressure-washing company in Denver. Over the past four years, we have grown to 11 different divisions, 10-plus service offerings and operations across three states!
Proudest accomplishment of the past year:
Becoming a better employer for our employees, in a sector which historically has not been the most employee-friendly. We strive to do this by offering industry-leading vacation and benefits, providing wage transparency, minimum hours, safety and training programs, appreciation events and career development opportunities.
Biggest challenge:
Integrating the people/teams, policies, business practices and IT systems from 11 different companies into one consolidated platform.
Biggest opportunity:
Most customers are using a network of multiple vendors to provide all the same services that Tendit can perform in-house under one roof. We believe cross-selling / bundling multiple services is a huge opportunity for our company that we can unlock through better marketing, sales training and bundled discount offerings.
Untold story:
Many of our customers (office buildings, retail shopping centers, hospitals, municipalities, HOAs, etc.) struggle to find quality, reliable vendors. For example, a property manager in charge of 10 commercial buildings may have contracts with 40-plus maintenance vendors depending on their service offerings and geographic limitations. This creates an enormous amount of complexity and administrative burden. Tendit is seeking to solve that issue for our customers, by bringing high-quality service providers under one roof that can be the single-point-contact for all your needs.
How do your company leaders help the team build camaraderie and stay motivated?
We challenge our technicians to take pride in their work and be the best at what they do. We support and motivate them by off ering leading benefits, bonus opportunities for quality and safety, recognition in the monthly employee newsletter, appreciation events, raffles and company-sponsored activities like a picnic day at Elitch Gardens and fantasy football competitions!
What is one local business or nonprofi t organization your company likes to support?
We support the Girls in Construction nonprofit organization. As a women-led organization,we believe it is important to support young, aspiring women in our fields and demonstrate the opportunities to succeed in the trade industries. Historically, women have been woefully under represented in our industry, and we believe that needs to change.
